Convergence of Big data, Cloud and IoT for the benefit of humanity – Tutorial

This tutorial sheds light on Big data, Cloud and IoT technologies and how they can be integrated to build powerful applications that deliver value for the benefit of humanity. Internet of Things (IoT) attempts to connect together various systems, sensors and different kinds of resources through a network, to enhance the utility of these resources. Cloud computing is an evolving paradigm of computing that gives dynamically configurable, elastic, scalable compute and storage resources to users on demand on a pay per use mechanism. Big Data analytics algorithms and tools enable batch and real-time data analysis of huge volumes and variety of data often arriving at high velocity in order to derive actionable insight that can feed back into applications to achieve desired system outcomes. It will present an overview of state-of-the-art technologies, tools, standards and challenges in this converged platform for applications development and walk through a case study to illustrate how it can be applied to solve large practical problems.


Vineeth Simon Arackal

Mr. Vineeth Simon Arackal is currently Principal Technical Officer in System Software Development for HPC (SSDH) group at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), CDAC Knowledge Park, Bangalore.

He has over 15 years of experience in the domains of High Performance Computing, Grid Computing and Cloud Computing.

He has worked in the development of System Software for PARAM Supercomputers, and in Software development for Grid GARUDA and CDAC Scientific Cloud SuMegha. He is currently working in the Scientific Cloud Computing Project, and leading the GARUDA Access Portal team.

He is the author of 15 publications in International and National Conferences and in technical magazines. He has given tutorials on Cloud Computing at PARCOMPTECH 2013 National Conference, Indo- Taiwan Workshop 2013 and ACC-2012 International Conference. He is a B.Tech. Computer Science & Engineering Graduate from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala.

Supriya N Pal

Ms. Supriya N. Pal holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from University of Mumbai. She had worked in NCST and presently is Associate Director and Head of Big Data Analytics Group & ACTS Training Division at CDAC Bangalore. She has been Technical Lead in applied R & D projects at National and International level in E-Governance and E-Learning domain. Her areas of interest include Database Systems, SW Engineering, SOA, Cloud Computing and Big Data Technologies.

Mr. Haribabu

Mr.Haribabu is working as Principal Technical Officer for IoT (Internet of Things) group at CDAC, Bangalore. He has completed M.Tech from Andhra University in the year 2000 and he is working with CDAC, Bangalore Since January 2001.

His areas of expertise are in VLSI design, embedded system development, Wireless sensor Networks, Energy harvesting for WSNs, FPGA design, Cryptography and Cryptanalysis. He has published more than 10 papers in International conferences and has a patent filed.

He has conducted four national workshops in the area of wireless sensor networks. His research areas include energy aware routing protocols, advances in MAC protocols, automation systems for energy sector, Security in IoT. He is a senior member of IEEE.
